The Sophienburg Museum & Archives is currently celebrating their 75th Anniversary. The Sophienburg in conjunction with the Comal County Genealogy Society is presenting this workshop to help you become familiar with the myriad of material available at the Sophienburg to learn more about your family.

Opening Session: The Basics of Genealogical Research – a look at the Ancestor Chart and the Descendency Chart.

Individual Sessions: You are invited to move from one area to another, each led by an expert with a different topic, to help you in those areas you are most interested in.

  • Family Histories – many are already available on our shelves.
  • Ship Lists – see when, where and with whom your ancestors arrived.

  • Phone Books – from 1905 – often good information here.
  • Church Records – we have many here – or we can help to locate them in the community
  • Courthouse Records – we can inform you what records at the Court- house may be helpful, and how to find them and assess them.
  • Other Records  – outside sources as the LDS Library, other Libraries and Centers, etc.
  • History Books – Many history books on certain Counties, Towns, Schools, Churches and other such entities.
