George Culwick, 87, became separated from sister Lucy Heenan, 88, when he began travelling all over the country with his engineering firm in his 20s.

But three months ago the pensioner attended a family ancestry meeting and discovered through another relative that Mrs Heenan had been living in Langley, Birmingham – a few minutes away from the home in Quinton in which he lived for decades.

"I thought Lucy was dead because I hadn't seen or heard of her for so long, so this has all come as a real shock," said George. "Meeting her again after all these ...

GeneaNet: Recording Place Names

The generally accepted method for recording place names is to begin with the smallest locality first and then up to the largest. You would therefore begin with the town or city name, then the county or district name, then the state or province name, and lastly the country name. In the GeneaNet database, data is indexed in a semicolon-separated list as shown below: BAXTER;1846;1846;1;Palgrave,IP22,Suffolk,England;SFK;ENG;GBR BAXTER;1778;1829;4;Diss,IP22,Suffolk,England;SFK;ENG;GBR

Those are the exact millions many Enron inventors lost when reality caught up with such illegal activities. More recently, the outgoing AIG boss asked that last year"s bonus calculations wouldn"t include the losses that took place in the same time period. (Gosh, the ...

We have talked about Loyalist Petitions for land and the UCLP in other blog posts. There can be many bits and pieces of affidavits, letters, etc in a Loyalist petition for land. These are all important to the genealogy researcher. But one part of any petition which is often overlooked by researchers is the outside flap or envelope of the entire bundle. The outside envelope holds important clues

Phishing and Other Scams
In my recent security class, one of the topics discussed was social engineering. This is defined as the art of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information. By collecting bits of information from different people, an attacker can learn enough about a network to gain access. On the personal level, social engineering is used to scam individuals into giving up passwords or account information. Consumer Reports has developed a WebWatch: Look Before You Click site with great tips to protect yourself while you’re online. Recently they added this video ...
