Keeping Up with the Conversation
We have learned that Twitter’s hash tags - a keyword preceded by a hash sign like #genealogy - make it possible to collect tweets related to a specific topic. Up until recently, I was using Twitter’s search function to view the discussion surrounding a specific tag. I recently discovered TweetChat and immediately fell in love with it. After logging in with your Twitter username and password, you will be prompted to choose a room to enter. Type the hashtag for the topic/room you wish to view - in this case #genealogy. Now you can view the conversation associated with your ...

My Old Neighborhood
Alligator climbing stairway to sliding board in an alligator farm: St. Augustine, Florida , originally uploaded by State Archives of Florida . My old neighborhood is now a part of Flickr Commons! The State Archives of Florida has added photos from their Florida Memory Project to the growing collection of photo archives in Flickr Commons. This alligator farm sits on the corner of A1A and the little dirt road where I grew up. Many’s the time I’ve watched that old gator climb up that sliding board.

LibraryThing Tweets Too
More Twitter goodness . . . If you’re a LibraryThing user, you can now add books to your profile with a simple tweet. The first step is to edit your LibraryThing profile, adding your Twitter username in the Sites/Apps section. Tweet Your Diigo Bookmarks
Have you noticed the Tweet this! checkbox in Diigo’s bookmark form? You can use this to quickly notify your favorite tweeple that you’ve found a site or article they might find interesting. Here’s how . . . Create your bookmark just as you normally would, but be sure to check the Twitter this! box. After you click the Save button, a Twitter message screen similar to this will appear. The bookmark title from your bookmark form is automatically entered along with a tiny URL to the page and “via www.diigo.com/” followed by your username. Any of this can be ...

Will Amazon bring Kindle to the iPhone?
MacWorld: Will Amazon bring Kindle to the iPhone? Somewhat obscured in the hubbub about Google announcing Thursday a mobile version of its public-domain book library was a separate announcement that may be much bigger: an Amazon spokeman told the New York Times that the company is working on a way to make books formatted for its Kindle e-book reader available “on a range on mobile phones.”

Gift Idea - Flickr Pro Account
If you have any budding genealogists or photographers in the family, a pro account at Flickr could be an affordable gift they will love. Pro accounts cost $24.95/year and provide the following benefits: unlimited uploads and storage making it a great place to backup your photo collection unlimited sets and collections for organizing your photos ad-free browsing stats on your content upload your videos too. The archival value alone is worth the price - which I discovered the hard way - but that’s just the beginning. The social side of Flickr supports both researchers and ...
