Pupils of the seven-grade San Geronimo School posed with their teacher, Prof. F.A. Burket, for this photo in 1921. The school was also known as the Rose School, in honor of H.A. Rose, who gave the land for the community school house in the Freiheit area. The photo was provided by Miss Nora Schultze, who identified the students (with married names appended to those of the girls) as follows: the pre-school-aged boy sitting on the ground is Reinhold Erwin Burket, son of the teacher, Prof. Burket, now listed in the San Antonio telephone directory as Lt. Col. R.E. Burket. The 12 boys in the first row are, from left, Albert Hansmann, Max Kohlenberg (dec.), Melvin Adams, Wilbert Hansmann, Walter Nolte, Arno Bormann, Alex Bormann (dec.), Arthur Brinkkoeter, Alton Timmermann (dec.), Alfred Roessing, Oscar Timmermann, and Lee Kohlenberg. Second row, Elsie Meyer Kneupper, Ruby Peinemann Self, Angela Kroesche, Helge Kraft Lumsden, Marcella Burket Springs (dec.), Ida Nolte Wenzel, Camilla Burket Munger, Prof. Burket, Ruby Kohlenberg Grobe, Gerda Harborth (?), Nora Timmermann Lehmann, Alice Dierks Foster, Melba Alves Rice (dec.), and Lillie Kohlenberg Eismann. Back row, Oscar Lehmann, Marvin Adams, Bruno Burket, Walter Meyer, Dan Timmermann, Willie Hansmann, Hedwig Timmermann Kraft (dec.), Elenora Hansmann (dec.), Nora Schulze, Thekla Hundertmark Zipp, Mildred Luersen Preiss, and Hugo Mittendorf. Seven-Grade San Geronimo School - 1921
A "rescued" old photograph of Louise & Herman T. ZUNKER which was taken at the Serdinko Studio in New Braunfels, Texas. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with the couple likely in their 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. Handwritten notes on the back also note that it is their wedding picture and that they are the grandparents of Leroy H. ZUNKER. The couple is in the 1910 census of Guadalupe County, TX as follows: <ul> <li>Herman T. ZUNKER, age 44, married 22 years, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1873, a Farmer</li> <li>Louise ZUNKER, wife, age 43, married 22 years, 8 children/6 living, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1881</li> <li>Alfred ZUNKER, son, age 20, born TX, a Farm Laborer</li> <li>Richard ZUNKER, son, age 18, born TX, a Farm Laborer</li> <li>Max ZUNKER, son, age 16, born TX, a Farm Laborer</li> <li>Felix ZUNKER, son, age 14, born TX, a Farm Laborer</li> <li>Irma ZUNKER, dau, age 7, born TX</li> <li>Rena ZUNKER, dau, age 4, born TX</li> <li>Christian HARTMANN, head, age 71, a widow, 8 children/8 living, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1881</li> <li>Anna HARTMANN, dau, age 35, born Germany, parents born Germany, to USA 1881, a Private Family Servant</li> <li>Malwine ZUNKER, wife, age 83, a widow, born Germany parents born Germany, to USA 1873</li> </ul> It is thought that the two older woman are Herman and Louise's Mother's and that Anna HARTMANN is Louise's younger sister. The owner of this photograph is hoping to locate someone from this ZUNKER Family so that this beautiful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. Does anyone remember the The Blue's Sugar Bowl? Do you know where it was located? Was it on San Antonio Street near what later became a mortuary? Blues Sugarbowl 1932
Photo from Jerry Sparkman. I would like to identify the location of this photo. ( Probably New Braunfels or Comal Town.) My Opa, Walter Fischer, is in the white hat (third from right). I believe this is when he operated Riverside Dairy - sometime before 1920 I think. He lived for a while in Smithson's Valley but I think this is later. It would certainly make a great Texas Honky-tonk today. I would like to identify anyone else in the picture as well.
